Rep. Takano Releases Statement Following Fifth Circuit Decision on DACA/DAPA

Washington DC – Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA) released the following statement after the Fifth Circuit Court ruled to uphold an injunction blocking the implementation of President Obama’s executive actions on immigration.

“The Fifth Circuit Court’s decision to block President Obama’s executive actions on immigration is a disappointing, yet unsurprising result. The ruling reflects the Court’s conservative ideology and ignores both the legal precedent of executive actions and the vital contributions undocumented immigrants make to the American economy. It’s shameful that instead of bringing millions of people out of the shadows and into society, the Court has chosen to force hardworking people and their families to continue living under constant threat of being separated by deportations.

“The conservative Fifth Circuit Court has a long history of landmark rulings that were later overturned by the Supreme Court, including Roe v Wade and several decisions on marriage equality. I look forward to adding this ruling to that list.

“It’s important to remember why the president was forced to act on his own. Our immigration system is clearly broken, yet House Republicans continue a policy of blocking solutions that would strengthen the American economy. Today is another reminder that millions of families are waiting on Congress to act.”
