March Air Reserve Base 

With March Air Reserve Base, the largest Air Reserve Base in the country, located in my district, I’ve seen firsthand the hard work and dedication of our military men and women. Not only does March play an important role in our national security, but the base is the largest employer in my district and has a yearly economic impact of roughly $500 million on the region. I am committed to ensuring the jobs at March Air Reserve Base are protected.

I successfully included legislative language in the FY21 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to preserve more than 300+ Defense Media Activity jobs at March Air Reserve Base, in recognition that the base is a massive economic anchor for Riverside and the surrounding community.

U.S.-Japan Friendship Commission

I serve as a Speaker-appointed Commissioner on the Japan-US Friendship Commission (JUSFC), a federal grant-making agency that supports research, education, public affairs and exchange with Japan. JUSFC’s mission is to support reciprocal people-to-people understanding and promote partnerships that advance common interests between Japan and the United States.

I also lead annually the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission Thomas S. Foley Legislative Exchange (Foley Exchange). This program is a public-private partnership between the JUSFC and the Mansfield Foundation, which merges three pre-existing legislative exchange programs: the Thomas S. Foley Legislative Exchange, the U.S.-Japan Legislative Exchange Program (LEP) and the U.S.-Japan-South Korea Trilateral Legislative Exchange Program (TLEP). 2022 Congressional Delegation to Asia

In August 2022, I traveled with then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi as part of a Congressional Delegation to Taiwan, with additional stops in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia. The purpose of the visit was to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to preserving a rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific.
