The Press Enterprise: Rep. Mark Takano opens satellite office
U.S. Rep. Mark Takano has opened a satellite office across the street from Perris City Hall designed to assist residents with questions about veterans’ benefits, immigration, Social Security and other pressing constituent issues.
Takano, whose district includes Perris and Riverside, also appeared at an open house at the satellite office, located at 137 North Perris Blvd., the same location as Perris Police Headquarters. He addressed about 20 members of the community, including elected officials, activist, public safety workers and residents.
Perris Mayor Daryl Busch and City Councilwoman Rita Rogers presented a plaque bearing the City seal to Takano so he could take it back to Washington and hang it in his Congressional office in Washington D.C.
“The City of Perris is pleased to have you open an office here,” Busch said as he presented the plaque to Takano. “It’s nice for citizens to be able to reach out to their elected representatives and vice versa. This is a nice addition to our City.”
Takano’s Perris office will be opened the first and third Thursdays of the month between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. The office will be staffed by bi-lingual employees from Takano’s staff. In addition to benefits and immigration-related questions, the office also can provide assistance to constituents seeking passports and visas and those with housing and Internal Revenue Service related inquiries.
Takano, a former high-school teacher elected in November, told the audience that he enjoys his job in Washington, adding that he lives just 15-miuntes walking distance from his home to his Congressional office. He said that he is assigned to a veterans’ advisory committee, an appointment he is “honored” to hold. As a career educator, Takano told the audience that he is dedicated to “working to improve educational opportunities” for Perris Valley children, teen-agers and young adults.
As he concluded his open house, Takano thanked the audience for attending, saying “this is a rare moment when I get to spend time with the citizens I serve.”
