Rep. Mark Takano Releases Statement on Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015

Washington DC – Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015.

“The Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015 is a win for hard-working American families and a clear defeat for the radical right wing of the Republican party.

“The bill prevents a 20 percent cut in disability benefits for millions of people, halts a major increase in Medicare Part B premiums and deductibles for millions of seniors, and allows us to invest in defense and domestic initiatives by breaking the damaging sequester. Most importantly, the agreement affirms the full faith and credit of the United States by ensuring we fulfill our financial obligations.

“The strength of this bipartisan legislation is reflected in the overwhelming support it has received from Democrats, moderate Republicans, seniors, labor and several other groups.

“However, today’s vote is cause for relief, not celebration. This agreement was only made possible by the resignation of the House Speaker and the urgency of preventing a calamitous default on our debt. We must end the era of governing by crisis and return to a more transparent approach that articulates a coherent vision for the future of this country.”
