Rep. Takano Signs on as Cosponsor to Voter Empowerment Act
Washington DC – Representative Mark Takano (D-Riverside) joined over one-hundred Members of Congress as a cosponsor to the Voter Empowerment Act, introduced by Representative James Clyburn.
This past election cycle, many complaints emerged of voters encountering problems while attempting to cast their ballot.
The Voter Empowerment Act aims to alleviate these issues by modernizing the American voting system with streamlined registration, equal access to the ballot box, and the elimination of barriers.
Representative Takano spoke after the introduction of the Voter Empowerment Act saying, “The stories of massive wait lines and voter suppression that emerged from last year’s election were troubling. The right to cast a ballot is a cornerstone of our democracy and we must ensure that anyone who is eligible to vote can do so easily. The Voter Empowerment Act takes an important step in strengthening that fundamental right and I’m proud to be a cosponsor.”
