Rep. Takano Statement on Clinical Assessment Program (CAP) Review of Loma Linda VA
Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Mark Takano (D-Calif.), vice ranking member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, issued the following statement after the Department of Veterans Affairs released its Clinical Assessment Program (CAP) Review of the Loma Linda VA.
“The Department of Veterans Affairs’ CAP Review of the Loma Linda VA health system is encouraging in some critical areas but reflects significant room for improvement in others. Its finding that facilities within the Loma Linda VA system are consistently providing veterans with safe and quality care is extremely encouraging. This is exactly what veterans deserve, and I applaud the VA employees and leadership who have worked so hard to protect veterans’ safety and to ensure they are receiving high-quality care.
“However, the report also identifies many shortcomings related to the administrative and reporting standards that VA facilities are responsible for meeting. While these issues are not directly related to patient care and have not resulted in any harm to veterans, they are established and proven practices that help make sure all facilities are providing consistently exceptional care.
“I am pleased that the Loma Linda VA has already responded with a specific plan and timeline to address the concerns raised in the report, and I am confident that the health system will continue to make progress toward meeting the high expectations we set for every VA medical center.”
