Rep. Takano Statement on Trump Administration’s Radical Immigration Proposal
Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Mark Takano (D-Calif.) released the following statement after the Trump administration published a radical immigration proposal that uses the fate of Dreamers as leverage to dramatically restrict legal immigration to the United States.
“In producing such a radical immigration proposal, President Trump makes clear that he views Dreamers not as people but as bargaining chips in a larger effort to dramatically restrict legal immigration to the United States.
“In exchange for protecting Dreamers, the president not only wants $25 billion in taxpayer money to build a monument to ignorance on our Southern border, he also wants to dismantle the legal immigration that has helped reunite families and strengthen American communities for more than fifty years.
“From the first day of his campaign, President Trump has made his opinion of immigrant families abundantly clear. This proposal is not a serious solution for Dreamers. This is a ransom note and a waste of precious time.”
