Takano Office Update on Scheduled Closure of the Base Exchange at March Air Reserve Base
RIVERSIDE, CA – Today, the office of Rep. Mark Takano (CA-39) released the following statement on the scheduled closure of the Base Exchange (BX) at March Air Reserve Base (MARB):
The Base Exchange at March Air Reserve Base has long been a critical resource for the military community, providing essential goods and services to servicemembers and their families. Congressman Takano is deeply concerned by its scheduled closure and is actively engaging with MARB leadership to explore potential alternatives and the future operations of the BX.
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), which oversees military base and post exchanges nationwide, made the decision to close this BX after repeated safety violations were cited and left unresolved. Despite efforts to address these issues, the cost of repairs and ongoing maintenance became prohibitive. Following repeated notifications from fire officials, the facility was deemed unsafe for both employees and patrons, leading to its closure.
While it is not a true substitute, the Base Exchange online store (ShopMyExchange.com) remains active. Servicemembers and their families can continue to purchase a wide range of items online, ensuring access to the goods and services they rely on.
Thank you for your dedication and commitment to our military community. For further questions or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
