Rep. Takano Statement on President Trump’s Budget Blueprint
Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Mark Takano (D-Calif.) released the following statement in response to the budget blueprint released by President Trump yesterday.
“The president’s budget blueprint reflects a hard-hearted and short-sighted vision for America.
The dramatic cuts it recommends for programs that feed the hungry, provide shelter to vulnerable families, and improve public education are cruel. It is shameful for the richest country in the world to abandon is obligation to care for those who are struggling.
“The steep reductions it recommends for programs that protect our environment, invest in innovation, and promote our values around the world would have profound consequences for our prosperity at home and our influence abroad.
“This is not a serious budget proposal. It is an ideological document that sends a dangerous message to Americans and our allies. I hope my colleagues in Congress will ignore this reckless budget blueprint and make the investments necessary to ensure our long-term prosperity and security, while care for those who desperately need our support.”
