Clearing the Way for Our Economy
by Rep. Mark Takano
Every year, the President goes to Congress to present their vision for our country. For some, it is an opportunity to propose specific policies, and for others, it is a chance to set the tone for the rest of the year. While speaking to the country on January 20, President Obama took the opportunity to talk about our much-improved economy. The national unemployment rate is under 6 percent, our GDP is growing at a rate not seen since 1999, and wages are finally beginning to rise. However, there … Continue Reading

With an Eye on the Future
by Rep. Mark Takano
With a new year upon us and the midterms now firmly in the rear-view mirror, Democrats are moving past all of the ink, tweets and hand-wringing that dominated the last few months. Yes, the map favored Republicans, with most key races in red or purple states. Yes, this was a midterm in the president's second term. And yes, this was the lowest turnout since the middle of World War II. For all those reasons, the deck was already stacked against Democrats' favor from the jump. But, it's clear … Continue Reading
