Rep. Mark Takano Praises Investing in Manufacturing Communities Program

Washington DC – Earlier today, Rep. Mark Takano praised the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Program (IMCP), which gives communities priority when competing for up to $1.3 billion in federal funding from 11 different federal agencies.

Earlier this year, Rep. Mark Takano lead a bipartisan letter from the Inland Empire Congressional delegation to the United States Department of Commerce calling for Riverside and San Bernardino counties to be designated as a manufacturing community under the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Program.

The letter, which included Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Corona), Rep. Judy Chu (D-Pasadena), Rep. Paul Cook (R-Yucca Valley), Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Temecula), Rep. Gary Miller (R-Redlands), Rep. Gloria Negrete McLeod (D-Chino), Rep. Ed Royce (R-Orange), and Rep. Raul Ruiz (D-Palm Springs), said, “The Inland Empire Manufacturing Community described in the attached proposal offers the infrastructure and manufacturing strength, supplier networks, workforce, innovation ecosystem, private and government partnership and leadership to maximally benefit from a Manufacturing Community designation.”

In May, the Los Angeles region was designated as one of the 12 regions to be prioritized by IMCP. An announcement about the Inland Empire’s collaboration with Los Angeles is expected soon.

Rep. Mark Takano praised the program and the effort of Dr. Angelov Farooq saying, “The Investing in Manufacturing Communities Program offers a significant number of opportunities for the Inland Empire and can help propel our region’s recovery. I especially want to thank Dr. Angelov Farooq for his effort in leading the application and working with the University of Southern California in aligning the Inland Empire with the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership in Los Angeles. I look forward to the details of the partnership between the Inland Empire and Los Angeles and am confident that the benefits of the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Program will help our region for decades to come.”
