Rep. Takano Applauds Senate Advancing Comprehensive Immigration Reform in Overwhelming Bipartisan Vote
Washington DC – Earlier today, Rep. Mark Takano (D-Riverside) issued the following statement after the United States Senate voted 82-15 to invoke cloture and begin debate for the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013 (S.744):
“I’m incredibly heartened by the Senate’s overwhelming show of bipartisan support for comprehensive immigration reform. By voting to begin debate on the Gang of Eight’s proposal, the Senate has begun a crucial step, as the final bill will take shape in the upcoming weeks.
“As the debate begins, I hope my colleagues in the Senate will hold true to our tradition of immigration and establish a system that is fair, and creates a more welcoming nation.”
