Rep. Takano Issues Statement on Keystone XL Vote

Washington DC – Rep. Mark Takano (D-Riverside) voted no on H.R. 3 and issued the following statement:

“Earlier today, I voted against H.R. 3, otherwise known as the Northern Route Approval Act, which declares that a presidential permit is not required for the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. This legislation brought forth by House Republicans also bypasses several important regulatory steps that provide transparency and information about the projects impact on neighboring communities.

“As the feasibility and environmental impact of the Keystone XL pipeline is being debated, it is crucial that information be made available to residents, businesses and experts alike. America’s energy future needs to be secured and should not become a political issue, as American energy independence is in the best interest of our nation.

“This approach by the House Republican Majority is the wrong way to go.”
