Rep. Takano: President Trump Must Choose Between Veterans and Billionaires
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Mark Takano (D-Calif.), vice ranking member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, released the following statement after a joint House and Senate Veterans Committee hearing on the legislative priorities of key veterans service organizations.
“Today, multiple veterans service organizations once again expressed the importance of a strong and sustainable VA health care system that can provide veterans the quality of care they deserve. The question is: Will President Trump listen to these veterans, or will he continue listening to the Koch Brothers and hedge fund billionaires who only see veterans as dollar signs?
“An overwhelming majority of veterans want us to invest in the VA. They want us to ensure that the Veterans Health Administration has the talented medical professionals, exceptional facilities, and renowned research centers that are required to successfully treat veterans’ unique mental and physical health conditions. Instead of working toward that goal, key figures within the Trump administration are working to eliminate the VA altogether.
“President Trump has been silent on this topic for far too long. It is time for him to choose between the veterans who fought for our country and his wealthy donors who want to exploit veterans and taxpayers for financial gain.”
