Rep. Mark Takano Statement After Being Sworn In to 114th Congress
Washington DC – Rep. Mark Takano (D-Riverside) released the following statement after being sworn in to the 114th Congress:
“Earlier today, I had the honor of being sworn in as a Member of the House of Representatives for the 114th Congress. By taking this oath, I swear to support and defend the Constitution, but more than that, I also swear to my constituents that I will work tirelessly for their best interests.
“Over the past two years, our nation and our region have faced a number of challenges, but I can say with certainty that we are better off than we were in 2013, as unemployment is down and our economy is growing at a rate not seen in more than a decade. As we move forward, we must work on passing comprehensive immigration reform that contains a path to citizenship, improving the health care and job prospects for veterans, preserving Medicare and Social Security, upgrading our transportation infrastructure, and restoring the Voting Rights Act.
“As someone who was born and raised in the Inland Empire, I’m determined improve our communities and make our region attractive for businesses of all sizes and middle class families looking to pursue the American dream. I consider being elected to the House of Representatives to be the honor of a lifetime and I promise to continue serving the constituents of the 41st District with dedication and commitment.”
